Gotta Have My Coffee!
Mar Pacific is proud to have had the opportunity to support our friends and customers at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Hawaii through a rough moment in supply chain shortage or difficulty by devising and executing a rapid recovery plan that brought product to stores in Hawaii in less than 48-hours.
The Client
The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf is a global cafe brand with over 1,000 stores worldwide, 16 of which are located across the Hawaiian Islands. The supply chain for branded goods originates from Southern California. This means purchase orders typically require longer lead times to allow for ocean shipments – a classic situation in Hawaiian supply chain logistics.
The Challenge
Connecting mainland supply chains to the Hawaiian Islands presents a unique set of challenges, but with well-budgeted time, good planning and solid partnerships for supply and logistics, the challenge can be successfully managed with consistency. However, occasional supply chain snags or demand spikes can arise, necessitating intense focus on speed to shelf. In Hawaii, such supply chain snags can translate to extended periods of lost sales and diminished customer experience – especially when stores are at risk of running out of ingredients for their best-selling products.
The Solution
Working closely with our client’s mainland suppliers, Mar Pacific devised and coordinated a multi-pronged tiered approach to solving supply of the most urgent items.

Expedited Ground Transportation
Mar Pacific dispatched a dedicated truck to stand by for pick-up ASAP upon order completion and rush transfer to Mar Pacific’s SQF-certified facility for onward shipment.
Expedited Air Freight
Upon arrival at our warehouse, Mar Pacific immediately segregated the most urgent items for air freight. We then conducted TSA security clearance through our on-site CCSF, consolidated urgent cargo to air freight containers and tendered to Hawaiian Airlines on the next available flight. Product landed in Hawaii within one day of the original pick-up.
Weekend Courier Delivery
Working in partnership with Island Movers, Mar Pacific was able to segregate product at the airline cargo terminal into 3 routes for deliveries that were made within 4-hours of store openings in Honolulu thus, ensuring the stores continued to operate and sell their most popular items.
Ocean Freight
The remaining balance of goods were co-loaded into ocean freight containers as a part of Mar Pacific’s ocean freight consolidation program. This product was tendered to the steamship line just in time for the next sail date less than 48-hours after pick-up. The cargo was delivered to the customer’s Honolulu distribution center within less than 24-hours of making land (within 7-days of initial pick-up).
We at Mar Pacific are proud of our approach to customer support and the sense of urgency we bring to supply chain solutions, because we realize the strength and competitiveness of our customers isn’t just the store front, but the entire supply chain behind it. We are grateful for the opportunity to help our customers build a competitive advantage through a reliable supply chain that can flex and grow as needed.
